Words & Silence: Storytelling Workshop
Class Overview
Since the very beginning, we’ve sat around the fire and told one another stories, and the fundamental need to share our experiences is intrinsic to the human condition.
This storytelling workshop provides folks with the skills, techniques, and confidence necessary to share their true-life, personal stories with an audience. Each week speakers are provided a story prompt, and each week those stories are told and workshopped by the group in class. Sessions will be an even mix of storytelling, group discussion, and an assortment of exercises, all geared towards: building trust and confidence; strengthening storytelling technique and ability; and offering a safe space for people to share their lived experiences.
Students will develop a total of 3 personal true-life stories over the course of the workshop, and will receive constructive feedback and in-class coaching both from myself and the class as a whole. I will also do in-class coaching with each student on their stories, offering in-depth notes.
All varieties of storytellers--writers, comedians, actors, playwrights, memoirists--are welcome. Class is open to students of all levels.
We all have a story. This class helps you to tell it.
