(5pm-8pm CST)

See below for details & How to Register.

Class Overview: Examining McKee’s “STORY” (Part I)

In Examining McKee’s“STORY” (Part I) is a 7-week online workshop, dedicated to helping playwrights refine their dramatic skills, develop new work, and/or workshop plays already in progress.  Writers are invited to do any combination of the following in class:

  • Bring in a play they’re currently writing, that they’d like to workshop/develop

  • Bring in a play they’ve already written, that they’d like to workshop/revise

  • Bring in the germ of a play, that they’d like to flesh out and develop (with writing exercises/prompts/etc), or develop a new play over the course of the class (using writing exercises/prompts/etc).

The class itself is workshop-based in style:  each session, writers have pages read and discussed by both the cohort and the instructor.  Additionally, writing prompts/exercises are provided to help students generate new material and spur creativity; those same exercises and prompts can be applied to existing work, to help jumpstart writers on work they feel has stalled. Whether you want to develop a new play, workshop a piece in progress, or bring in a play for a tune-up, there are tools and exercises available to you. All levels welcome.
